Dear Diary,

Holy Wednesday.

There were large crowds all around Jesus, but there were those who were part of a much smaller circle, entrusted with a more intimate experience in which they received private teachings.

With intimacy can either come mutual love and compassion and giving, or a separation created by competition, created by a heart of stone.

One of his closest companions was so overcome with jealousy, greed, and power, that he devised a plan of betrayal by approaching those who were seeking to harm Jesus and offering to help them take him away.

This betrayal is a reminder of the consequences of a hardened heart. The consequences of misplaced hatred, pain, a hunger for power and control. Ultimately it was the betrayer who was hurt the most because he wasn’t able to find softness and gentleness inside his own heart.
