The Crow.
Dear Diary.
It’s the first day of Sagittarius. The archer in the sky aiming for the heavens, higher truth. I’ve had many great Sagittarius friends in my life and each one has brought me to new adventures.
When I was at HBO it was the Creative Director of Game of Thrones who gave me the greatest piece of truth about the Industry. In her very direct and straightforward Sagittarius way, Karen said, “Always remember to advocate for yourself because no one else will do it for you.”
In 2022, around this same Sagittarius-time of the year, The Real Anthony Fauci documentary I wrote and directed had just been released the month before. The producer was making the interview-circuit to promote the film where he omitted the fact that I was the sole writer of the movie. And sometimes took credit for it when he was asked how he was able to turn this giant book into a movie script. Despite the fact that many knew I was the writer/director, it’s true what Karen said. No one spoke out for me. In fact I was shut out.
But I didn’t let it get me down. That next year, in the Spring of 2023, all of a sudden I was singled out in this ocean of people as a crow dove down onto the crown of my head and pecked me with its sharp beak and flew away. The crow is a messenger between the two worlds, the earthly realm and the heavens. God always balances everything out and makes the crooked paths straight.
I thought of Karen’s message that day in her office at HBO so many moons ago. And it made me think about my grandfather. While there was a gentlemen’s agreement to cross-promote with my grandfather handing out the comic at his shows, the comic didn’t keep their word about promoting my grandpa’s elaborate two-hour theater show traveling across country. My grandfather didn’t indulge in the dramas. He just continued on, building his show…
Love,
Käla
